The Battle of Gettysburg was the battle of the Civil War with the most casualties, and was fought July 1, 1863 - July 3, 1863. It was fought in Gettysburg Pennsylvania. There where 23,000 casualties on the Union (the North) and 28,000 casualties on the Confederate ( the South). The 2nd day was the day with the most casualties. The Union general was George Meade, and the confederates was Robert E. Lee. Also Robert E. Lee and his men charged from west to east driving the union into Culp's Hill and Cemetery Ridge, but the Union won because they where on high land. There was a total of 88,000 Union troops, and 75,000 Confederate troops.
